The circus came to town! In a blaze of talent and comic relief, the students shined on stage and under the sun to deliver another mini tour of wonderful shows. It was a treat to see our kids show off their talent and skill.
I asked the class to go find a spot on the green rug.....and they formed this tight, little circle of darlingness and magic.
During the week of final circus prep and rehearsal I had the kids do a step by step portrait of an owl using chalk pastels. I offered guidance by showing them a few techniques on the different ways you can blend, shade, as well as adding detail and layering. They came out wonderful.
An ode to the rain.
We have been blessed with rain this month! And at Orchard that means: deep puddles under the swing set, trenches and water flows to build by the boat, and mud everywhere! I believe there was also a mud slip and slide!
We dedicated a class period to the rain and all the fun we have with our classmates during the wet season. Splatter paint for the win!
Last week was a mellow class but always fun and sweet. I read a short story , we chatted and swapped stories ourselves, then transferred to our art tables to create our own books. Many materials were offered to decorate and design their books including: markers, crayons, stickers and colored pencils. When the kids have time to free draw some students request little books to be made. I took their idea and thought it would be fun if we all made one during a class period.
Yesterday we had our last class before spring break. After reading a short story, we did a fun project decorating a large cut out egg with crayons of different shades. The kids practiced lines and shapes with focus and joy. Once completed, the students filled the rest of the egg with watercolor. The final results turned out fantastic!
All this incredible art work will be in cubbies Friday, ready to be taken home before spring break.

When we get back in early April we will use our time in the art room dedicating each project to Earth day as we will create with recyclables and upcycled goods. I can’t wait!
