Español - Marzo

March 9th: On March 2nd I was in Tecate, Mexico with a group of women building a house in one day for a single mother and her daughters (all single moms). We also donated food and other items to two communities nearby. In class, we talked about this a little and then played duck, duck, goose using vocabulary in Spanish that related mostly to a house or building a house. After that, I showed the students some of my photos of the process, the family, neighborhoods etc. They were all so intrigued and insightful. Many of them shared something that they were thinking and/or asked questions. Although we didn’t really do a lot of Spanish speaking today, they really soaked up the culture of it all!

March 16th: For most of the class today we played ‘Frio, tibio, caliente’ and hid and found “the  key” - la llave. We practiced “Where is the key?” Dónde está la llave? and “Here is the key” - Aquí está la llave. I chose the key because just before I left, we practiced the “Here is the key to the Kingdom” poem that Rosy does with them, and we substituted the main words in Spanish. After I left, Rosy continued to have them draw and label some of vocabulary words in their books.

March 23rd: We practiced “Where is…..? Here is…..” Dónde está……?  Aquí está……..  By running around outside to different areas of the school. They loved this and really caught on to a lot of the vocabulary quickly. Then we sang a color song inside followed by a song about family members. Then they added to their poem books. Hopefully their folders and books arrived home on Friday and you will enjoy reading and practicing with them. I thought they turned out great!!!
