November and December
In November and December, our class focus was getting to know our community and practicing being responsible citizens. We visited the Resource Recovery Facility and learned more about the local recycling process. At school, partner groups created displays or posters to share their important message about waste and recycling with our school community. For the holidays, students learned how to make organic beeswax wraps, which help reduce plastic waste.
The students pose in front of a tower of crushed and baled cans.
After an exciting visit to the Resource Recovery Center, our class stopped at Natural Bridges for lunch, and to visit the monarch butterflies.
Our class also took a service learning trip to the SPCA to care for the animals.
Volunteer trip to the SPCA
In preparation for our trip, students collected donations, and they made cat and dog toys and adoption bandanas to bring to the animals.
