In December, the students continued to work independently in their geometry and algebra books, problem solving task cards, and on specific curriculum.   The fifth graders explored factor strings, unsquaring numbers and exponents, while the sixth graders gave attention to multiplying decimals.  All students continued to practice the long division algorithm, their multiplication facts through the facts quiz, and logic through the activities of Digits and Place, Logic Pattern, and Find X.  In the Four 4s investigation, they figured ways to make the numbers 1-30 using four 4s.  An example would be representing the number 16 as 4+4+4+4, or as 4x4+4-4.  The students also explored probability through the Dreidel game where they recorded each spin and compared their results with the actual probability of each symbol having a 25% chance of being spun.
