In the past few weeks we’ve further explored all that the line has to offer (as a perimeter, as value, texture, etc.) with some exercises translating Value and a fun explorative project of finding a picture of an animal or person from a magazine, cutting out the head/shoulders out, gluing it randomly on paper and drawing the rest (using lines, shapes, patterns) of the figure.  The results were creative, humorous and wild!

The following week we dedicated a class to cocreate the official Harvest Festival Cookbook! The 5th/6th graders drew sweet pictures of veggies, fruit and prepared foods (along with the cover and credit page) to go along with the recipes.  It was fun for the kids to meet such a quick deadline and work together cooperatively on this project.  Everyone was happy with the turnout.  The first graders and kindergarteners take credit for the coloring in of pages....added a sweet touch, don’t you think? 

All the food was delicious!  

We spent one class period experimenting with watercolors and the reaction it has when salt is sprinkled on, or rubbing alcohol is applied with an eye dropper, or even crinkled plastic wrap left to dry has. We will use this paper for another art project soon.

Last week we reviewed Value (again! It’s so good and important!) by using monochromatic colors to paint a landscape scene that shows depth by using shading and tint (adding black or white).  The 3rd/4th graders had a field trip so I had the pleasure of having the 5th/6th graders for TWO whole period so we could take our time mixing colors, painting with ease and having a little extra time to play a little extra Badminton ;)

This week is prop creation time for the Haunted Willows!!  I’m not exactly sure what the kids need done, but I heard it’s going to be a scary time.  Be prepared to be spooked next Friday.  🎃👾👽
