Family Heritage Celebration ~ March 2nd thru March 11th. Please sign up if you would like to attend your child’s presentation and need to specify a time.  Sign-ups are located above the cubbies. Feel free to bring a family recipe to share on the day your child presents. We are look forward to sharing our stories and celebrating our families together!

Chinese New Year – students learned about the origins of the Chinese Zodiac identifying their Chinese Zodiac year, animal and associated characteristics.  Students then made Happy New Year cards to give to friends or family using Chinese characters and symbols.

American Heritage, Flag and symbols – students explored the meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance and learned to recite it using sign language. We are exploring our country’s history and heritage through American symbols including the American Flag, the Bald Eagle, the Statue of Liberty and our currency.                          

February is Black History month and we are celebrating by highlighting African American challenges and achievements. We are focusing on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Wilma Rudolph, Langston Hughes and Jackie Robinson.

We celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy by reading the book “Peaceful Fights for Equal Rights, “ a book about how to use your voice to make change in the world. Students are becoming familiar with the “art of messaging,” and will utilize some of these strategies in making their own posters for our 50th Earth Day Celebration this April.

Students are working on paragraph writing and conventions in preparation for their Animal Projects this spring.

Valentine’s Day and Friendship - students enjoyed writing poetry for each other and their families~

Save The Date! Thursday, March 12th 11:00-1:00.  2/3 Class visits the Aptos History Museum. Docent, John Hibble will teach us about the history of the Ohlone Indians and their life in Aptos.
