Music
The 3rd Graders have chosen to be called, The Tigers! We are practicing the rhythms ta, titi, tiri tiri, and rest in different songs. We composed and played our compositions which we did in small groups, notated them using the heart chart, and playing them on the xylophones, drums and other percussion. And we are learning the pentatonic scale, practicing la, sol, mi, re, & do, using our Curwen Hand Signs (see below) in Chicken on a Fence Post and Circle ‘Round The Zero. We have also danced to these American Folk Songs,
We have incorporated harmony by singing rounds like Peace Canon, and have added melodic ostinatos (a phrase that repeats over and over) to add more harmony and depth. We play body percussion and clapping games. One favorite we enjoy is to Pease Porridge Hot.
We have brainstormed pop songs and are choosing from the list. We also have enjoyed singing Do, a Deer from the Sound of Music musical!
We are excited to be planning a celebration and choosing songs and dances for our concert in June! We may even choose a piece we have composed together!
