The autumn season is always a great time to focus on warm and cool colors. The students created a beautiful forest of warm colored foliage with a cool and crisp sky behind. Blending colors was the primary technique using a dabbing motion with flat tip brushes. The challenge was to not over blend so the viewer sees all the colors used to present the depth of the forest. Lastly the kids used oil pastels, a tint and a shade, to add value to the trunks.
These came out, beautifully. Acrylic on tempera with oil pastel.

The kids also had an opportunity to enter a design contest held by the Santa Cruz Library. The winner of the contest will have their design on the 2020 library card! We’ll find out who wins on December 1st.

Keeping in the Halloween spirit the kids had a chance to draw and watercolor paint a bat flying on a starry night (they sprinkled salt on their artwork to create the stars). Next month we’ll explore monochromatic and value. Great job artists!
