Language Arts

During the short and busy month of December, the 3/4 students focused on analyzing literature and our seasonal poem, Solstice and spelling skills.

Also, Mary Ann joined us to create holiday cards for active military members. The children were thrilled to visit with Mary Ann!

We are about halfway through our historical fiction novel, Island of the Blue Dolphin. As a whole class, we have used the story to study grammar (proper nouns), chain of events, and finding text evidence to support our analysis.

During small group time, we further analyze text by posing questions about the book we are reading, and also work on improving our spelling skills by writing commonly misspelled words.

In December, the kids practiced spelling and reinforced proper nouns with our thematic winter spelling words (winter, solstice, December, Kwanzaa etc).
