Art

In the past few weeks we’ve further explored all that the line has to offer (as a perimeter, as value, texture, etc.) with some exercises translating Value and a fun explorative project of finding a picture of an animal or person from a magazine, cutting out the head/shoulders out, gluing it randomly on paper and drawing the rest (using lines, shapes, patterns) of the figure.  The results were creative, humorous and wild!

Next up was preparing for the Harvest Festival.  This year the 3rd/4th graders took charge on creating the “Welcome to the Harvest Festival” banners to greet our families to the feast, created by the students and faculty, in celebration of our abundance as a community and in the garden.  The class came together and worked harmoniously as they divided and uniquely designed the letters.  It added a bright feel to all the flowers and dishes provided.  

The food was delicious! 

With the buzz of the festival behind us, I thought it would be nice to have an out breath kinda day with the kids and have fun experimenting with watercolors. I also took this oppurtunity to differinciate warm and cool colors. The artists added drops of rubbing alcohol and salt to their freeform paintings of blended colors and tones .  We plan on using the watercolor paper for another project in the near future. 

The 3rd/4th graders enjoyed a day at Nisene Marks for a field trip, luckily we had a chance to do an art project at Leadership.
