Music

The 3rd and 4th graders have been getting ready for their Halloween performance on Friday evening.  They have chosen to do a piece entitled "This is Halloween" from the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas. The music is by Danny Elfman and has a ton of key changes, which provides for a very musically interesting (and challenging!) melody.   We decided as a class that the original lyrics were a tad too scary for most, so the class came up with some very clever alternative lyrics for some of the verses.

This group is very adept at moving and they learned Michael Jackson's "Thriller" choreography with relative ease.  They were so confident with the choreography that I then sent them to task of getting into small groups and creating short choreographies of their own.  The students came up with some great (and sometimes humorous!) choreographies.  They will be presented at Friday evening's Halloween event.

"Elemental music is never just music. It's bound up with movement, dance and speech, and so it is a form of music in which one must participate, in which one is involved not as a listener but as a co-performer".  --Carl Orff
