The Second Graders have chosen to be called, The Gnomies! We have explored many songs and dances from all over the World. For example, Naughty Tabby Cat (in English) is a Hungarian folk song with English translation. In addition to singing the song and adding movements, we have explored its rhythm structure using 4 beats (the heart chart) and showing the rhythm under the hearts with stick notation called, ta, titi and rest.
We have also explored ta, ti ti rest using the heart chart and stick notation with a variety of other songs, including the song and dance, Bow Wow Wow, and tiri tiri in a clapping game to Dinah. We enjoy correcting rhythm charts that have intentional mistakes and even composing our own rhythms on the heart chart. We are practicing songs that use the tones sol mi and la, such as Charlie Over the Water, and mi re & do, using Sailor, Sailor doing the dance games of these songs as well.
The Pancakes are brainstorming pop songs enjoyed at home for a list to choose from in class and we are starting to think about and discuss what we might sing, dance and play for the concert in June!
