Hola y bienvenidos a todos. Hi and welcome everyone.

We have only had a few Spanish Fridays, so we have mostly been playing games and singing songs that we learned last year (usually as per student request). This is a great way to review with the confidence that they are already “Spanish Speakers.” The new students seem excited to be learning, and students from last year are helpful in teaching them. There has been much enthusiasm for all we have done.

We began an ongoing book with illustrations and  a few words in Spanish on each page. This is a good way to fill in time when someone is finished with another project, or we might work on it for a longer period of time if we want as I introduce more vocabulary.

Also, I have shown a few short videos including mariachi music, cultural videos, a leaf/fall song, and another one that talked about trees and leaves. This is just a quick way to have them hear another accent and open up discussions about  the language and culture.

Last Friday we played out the poem “Soy un árbol” (I am a tree) which was new to all of the first graders. Then, we did a “Veo, veo” (I spy) paper with autumn vocabulary.

With Día de los Muertos on the way, we will be talking about the traditions and cultural aspects of November 1st and 2nd. They are already asking when we will make sugar skulls and do various art projects! Please let me know if you ever have suggestions and feel free to contact me any time. Gracias!
