Circus and Drama

We have continued our lessons on the basics of movement, balance and focus which are the building blocks of both circus and drama. Hopefully you received a picture at home about a Shel Silverstein poem, Eight Ballons. We drew the story in 8 pictures, then acted out the play, focusing on the quality of floating, twirling, hissing, and popping balloons. We did partner balances, to experience the dynamic which is compounded by two bodies in various balances. Trust and cooperation are key concepts involved. We also did some elevated balances, with the teacher as the ‘understander’, (the person on the bottom) and the student on top. The kindergarteners, as of this week, have been up on the static trapeze, which challenges strength, flexibility and fears. 1st graders are back on the stilts and unicycles.
