Math

On Wednesday last week, I had a wonderful class with this group. I had given them cuisenaire rods and posed some questions regarding ratio. They solved them and then were free to explore the rods in their own way.

Ansel created a small platform for his tea cup.

Kaji, who was sitting next to him, was intrigued and created his own.

Then, Ezra and Daxton began to explore balance

All of a sudden, many students started to experiment with design. We had platforms, balance structures, and cozy nooks for the cups.

And finally, a new Kaji creation that I assumed was unrelated turned out to be a long platform for everyone's cups.

We fit as many cups as we could on top and then the students requested that I take a picture of all those whose cups fit on the platform.

And below, Daxton's cup balanced atop a single cube.

Those students who chose to build other structures explored architectural concepts in their own ways:  Hank, Jordan, Elena, and June. (There were a few students missing that day)
