Black History Month

We have had much to discuss and create in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. in January, and then in February, in recognition of Black History month, highlighting incredible artists and leaders who have paved the way for peace and equality. We studied works by Alma Thomas, Jean-Michel Basquiat and the Gee’s Bend quilters.

In leadership we were introduced to a few of many African American inventors of our time. Jack Johnson invented the wrench in 1922 and John Lee Love invented the portable pencil sharpener the early 1900’s!

We dedicated a few classes on learning about the Lunar New year and all the beautiful traditions and celebrations that take place during the 15 day long holiday.

We are so fortunate to be inspired by many cultures these winter months.
