Erica Fiechter

Please welcome Erica Fiechter as Orchard School’s new science teacher.  Erica has a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource Recreation and Tourism, Parks and Protected Area Management from Colorado State University, aMultiple Subject Teaching Credential and a Single Subject Science Credential.  She comes to us with nine years of classroom teaching experience in four grade levels and has over 10 years of outdoor education experience in a diversity of settings, working with students from second through 12th grade.  Erica views Orchard’s small, student-centered community as an attractive and engaging environment where she welcomes the opportunity to continue her career and facilitate students in the joy of learning.  Erica says, “Teaching at Orchard school will allow me to reconnect more closely with my outdoor education background, which has always been a great source of inspiration to create meaningful activities that appeal to a variety of learning styles.”



Marla Stone Lyons

Marla Stone Lyons will be joining our teaching staff this year as our new music teacher.  She comes to us with a wealth of teaching experience in the K-12 public and private schools.  Marla is currently teaching in Mountain View through the Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) using the Kodaly and Orff pedagogy. She holds a K-12 Preliminary Teaching Credential; has a Master of Arts in Theater/Dance, Music from Goddard College, Vermont; and a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts/Dance, Music, from San Jose State University.  Marla is a professional musician and directs, produces, and performs with three bands in the community, playing New Orleans, jazz, funk, marches, and ballads.  Marla is excited to be part of the community of learners at Orchard School and to continue her passion of giving the gift of music and dance to children. 

The kindergarten meet and greet/work day is on August 29th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please wear clothes you can get dirty in and bring gardening gloves, rakes, hammer/nails, water, and anything else you think might come in handy.

The all-school Ice Cream Social is on September 4th from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Ice Cream and cones will be served, with gluten-free, dairy-free options. Homemade ice cream creations welcome.

First day of school is September 5th, 9 a.m.
